Donation to Areas Affected by the May 2008 Sichuan Earthquake

1. Adidas donated one million RMB and Adidas apparels valued 2 million RMB, through Shanghai Red Cross Association.

2. Anheuser-Busch has donated the following to help with the disaster relief:

  •  500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand) USD (RMB 3.5 million) in cash to Red Cross Society of China;
  •  More than 1.1 million USD (RMB 7.7 million) or 425,000 cases of fresh drinking water has been delivered directly by our own plant to disaster-hit areas.

3. As of May 20, Bosch (China) Investment Ltd and its affiliated branches have donated 2.3 million CNY for restoration work in the province.

4.AMD Company has donated 1,000,000 CNY and 10 computers right after the earthquake happened to Chengdu Charity Association, which will support disaster relief in Chengdu. By May 22, AMD employees in Shanghai and Beijing had donated 236,401 CNY to Red Cross and the donation of the other offices in Shenzhen, HK, and Taiwan will be calculated later.

5. Bacardi Limited has made donations to the Red Cross Society, of which US$100,000.00 are donated by the company. And the staff has contributed voluntarily up to RMB 116,408.00.

6. BP China: A Supplementary Note from Gary Dirks regarding the Earthquake

Dear Colleagues,

A week has passed since the tragedy occurred and whilst the entire nation is in mourning for the victims, we are also continuing to help. This note is to update you on what BP and you have done so far to help those affected by the earthquake.

I previously advised you that BP China would donate $200,000USD to the China Red Cross. This has been paid to China Red Cross by BP Foundation last Friday.

A Group wide employee campaign is calling upon our employees to provide their support through donations and these will be matched by the Company. In China, with the company assistance, we have collected RMB 650,000 cash from our employees to date. This effort will continue via individual online donation to China Red Cross for another couple of weeks across our sites in China. All the donations made to China Red Cross by 15th June will be matched on a 1:1 basis by BP Employee Matching Fund through a simplified matching process. Finally, the BP Group has pledged a further $1.3Million USD to the China Red Cross. This has increased our corporate donation to over RMB 10 Million.

7. All Bosch legal entities in China:

On May 15th, a donation of 1 million Yuan on behalf of all Bosch legal entities in China has been announced to the China Red Cross Association in order to start off a donation campaign which followed. Today the donations from the Bosch legal entities and joint ventures in China have reached a total of 2.4 million Yuan of company funds. Bosch (Hong Kong) donated power tools valued at 100 thousand Yuan to the Sichuan Fireman Bureau.

As of May 21st, the associates in Bosch legal entities and joint ventures in China have generously donated 1.75 million Yuan in total which were remitted to the China Red Cross Association, China Youth Development Foundation and local union federation.

Moved by the tragedy, the board of management of our parent company Robert Bosch GmbH has decided to re-build two schools in Sichuan with a further donation of 7.5 million Yuan through the non-profit organization Primavera which is funded and run by Bosch associates in Germany. To honour the generosity of Bosch associates in China, the management teams of the Bosch legal entities and joint ventures in China have decided to donate another 3.5 million Yuan, which equals to twice the amount donated by the associates, for the school rebuilding fund. In total the Bosch companies are donating 13.5 million Yuan, consisting of 11 million Yuan for rebuilding two schools, 2.4 million Yuan of company funds and 0.1 million Yuan of power tools.

Including the 1.75 million Yuan donation by the associates, the total sum is 15.25 million Yuan which is the common result of Robert Bosch GmbH, the Bosch legal entities, the joint ventures and the associates in China.

8.Caterpillar

In China, the Caterpillar Foundation made an initial gift of $50,000 (almost RMB 350,000) and is donating an additional gift of $500,000 (RMB 3.5 million). The Foundation will match up to an additional $500,000 (RMB 3.5 million) in cash donations from Cat employees, retirees, directors and dealer employees. Our contribution has the potential to produce a total of $1.55 million (RMB 10.8 million). In addition, Shin Caterpillar Mitsubishi Ltd. is making a donation of 10 million yen—nearly $96,000 or RMB 670,000—to the Japanese Red Cross to help provide relief.

Cat dealer, ECI-Metro, immediately mobilized 22 machines, various work tools and five generator sets to aid in the earthquake relief efforts in China. Three other Cat dealers in China—China Engineers, WesTrac China and Lei Shing Hong—are providing 40 additional machines. Team Caterpillar has also dispatched skilled operators to assist in rescue and recovery efforts. The in-kind contributions are valued at approximately $10 million.

9. CHANEL cares about those who suffered in the earthquake, and has made contribution through the International Red Cross to help those in need".

10. Cisco has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross for transfer to the Red Cross Society of China; the donation is focusing on the immediate relief efforts to assist local victims of the disaster. Cisco is also working with non-governmental agencies, including NetHope, to provide relief and is willing to offer governmental assistance for mobile emergency communications capabilities. In addition to the company donation, the Cisco Foundation will also match employee contributions up to $1,000,000.

11.Colgate-Palmolive China has made a RMB 1,000,000 donation to the China Red Cross on May 16. And donation from our staff is still ongoing and will send out in recent days.

12. Daimler supports earthquake victims in China with a total of €500,000

  • All-terrain vehicles also provided
  • Daimler employees in China donate €16,000
  • €200,000 provided for Myanmar

Stuttgart - Daimler AG is supporting the earthquake victims in China together with its local companies Daimler North East Asia (DNEA) and Beijing Benz-DaimlerChrysler Automotive Ltd. (BBDC). The money is being provided to locally active aid organizations such as China Charity Foundation and the Chinese Red Cross. In addition, DNEA has provided the Chinese authorities with trucks for use in disaster areas.

“The situation in Sichuan is appalling,” stated Ulrich Walker, Chairman and CEO of Daimler North East Asia. “We have only recognized the extent of destruction since emergency personnel arrived in the worst-hit areas recently. The disaster is far greater than was originally assumed. We have therefore decided to significantly increase our support.” DNEA already donated €40,000 one day after the earthquake.

Daimler is cooperating closely with the responsible authorities and aid organizations on the spot in order to organize aid projects as effectively as possible. The focus is on supporting the search and rescue efforts, the care of homeless people and the long-term reconstruction of schools, hospitals and old-people’s homes. Daimler’s employees in China have already demonstrated their willingness to help spontaneously by donating a total of €16,000.

13.Dear colleagues:

First of all, thanks to all of you who voluntarily had taken part in the donation for Sichuan Earthquake. By donation deadline of May 20th, Danfoss China employees have donated 293,360.5RMB (including Joint Venture Danfoss-Sanhua (Hangzhou) Micro Channel Heat Exchanger Co., Ltd. and Chinese employees stationed abroad) and 1143 pieces of clothes and living materials. Each local coordinator is remitting the donation and sending the living materials to China Red Cross Foundation.

Besides, SH office has bought 11 big tents, 5 small tents, 18 moisture proof mattresses and delivered to Danfoss employees and their family in Chengdu this morning.
Last but not the least; we would like to express our sincere appreciation to Calvin Chen and Guo Weijian. Although stationed abroad, they always paid intensively attention to the disaster and contacted HR when they heard about the donation activity, calling on and coordinating voluntarily donation among Chinese employees abroad. And also highly appreciate all employees abroad who contributed into this event.

As part of the donation effort, the Fabrikant Mads Clausen Foundation and Danfoss China decides to donate 706,639.5RMB together on top of employee's donation, therefore Danfoss Group and Danfoss China employees will donate totally one million RMB for urgent help of the Sichuan earthquake.

Furthermore, Danfoss Group is considering building Danfoss Hope schools for supporting the education of the disaster area in long term point of view.

14.Disney

Dear Partners and Friends of Disney,

Your email was sent to me by Jennifer Tashima from our corporate legal department. Like you, everyone at Disney has been greatly saddened by the devastation and suffering caused by the earthquake in Sichuan and surrounding regions last week.

In recent days, many of our licensees, partners and suppliers have contacted us to find out how we were helping and to offer assistance. Yesterday, the Walt Disney Company announced a donation of US$1million (approximately RMB7million) in humanitarian aid to the victims of the earthquake in Sichuan. In addition to this, I am also extremely proud to tell you that our staff from our Greater China offices (mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan) together with staff from Hong Kong Disneyland made personal donations and raised over US$110 000. The collected funds, together with the Company donation have been donated to the China Youth Development Foundation. The foundation will focus on immediate relief efforts as well as the rebuilding of schools. I am very pleased to advise you that these rebuilding efforts have already commenced and in one instance the rebuilding of a school has been completed.

15. Eli Lilly US$1M in cash and medicines for the Earthquake relief effort in China Believe we were compiling a list of donations - apologies have misplaced the original e-mail.

16. Emerson

As of May 22, 2008."Emerson and its employees have donated approximately 6 million RMB in cash and equipment to the disaster relief efforts. More than 4 million RMB in cash has been donated to the Red Cross Society of China and other relief organizations. In addition, Emerson Network Power has donated equipment worth 2 million RMB and dispatched engineers to telecom operators located in the affected areas to assist them in reestablishing communications links."

(May 27, 2008) Emerson and its employees have donated nearly 6.55 million RMB in cash and equipment to the disaster relief efforts. Approximately 4.55 million RMB in cash has been donated to the Red Cross Society of China and other relief organizations, of which employees have donated 2.6 million RMB. In addition, Emerson Network Power has donated equipment worth 2 million RMB and dispatched engineers to telecom operators located in the affected areas to assist them in reestablishing communications links.

18. GE Donation to Earthquake Relief Exceeds RMB 30 Million. Company Sends Tent, First-aid Kit to Chengdu, Xi'an Employees

Dear Colleagues,

On Wednesday, May 28, our Chairman & CEO Jeff Immelt announced that GE will be donating RMB 10 million in additional water and medical equipment to hospitals and communities in earthquake impacted areas. These equipments currently being shipped to the affected areas will join other equipment dispatched within the first week after the earthquake to support the relief efforts of the earthquake-affected region.

The GE equipments that are helping with the disaster relief include GE Water's portable water treatment units. GE Healthcare's patient monitors , portable black/white ultrasound units , C-arms , anesthesia machines , portable ventilators , mobile X-ray ; GE Consumer & Industrial's lighting products for rescue and temporary home lighting.

Within two days after the earthquake, GE and the GE Foundation made its 1st phase donations of RMB 10 million in cash to the Red Cross Society of China, and over RMB 5 million worth of equipment. Since then, over 7000 GE employees in Greater China have contributed over RMB 3.1 million in cash to Red Cross Society of China, upon data verification, employees’ donation will be matched by the GE Foundation, which would be likely to increase total donation by another RMB 3.1 million as results.

This new announcement, when combined with previous equipment and cash donations raises GE and GE employees' total contribution to disaster relief efforts to more than RMB 30 million.

GE has purchased tent and first-aid kit through the company's soucring channel for every employee in Chengdu. The goods have been shipped to Chengdu in the express package. The same plan for employees in Xi'an is being executed.

Thank you for your support to the earthquake disaster relief. Thanks to many Chengdu employees who are contributing to the relief efforts directly by serving customers in the earthquake impacted areas.

GE China

19. General Mills Foundation on behalf of General Mills China has committed $500,000 (approximately RMB 3.5 million) to the American Red Cross to support the earthquake response efforts led by the Red Cross Society of China.

20. GM

Up to 14:00 pm today (May 22), GM have collected a total of RMB 13.25 million from the big Family, including GM Foundation, GM Corp., SGM, SGMW, PATAC and SGM Norsom & Dongyue plants. Among the total number, our employee donations from GM China and APHQ total RMB 134,986.2 and GM corporate will match our employee donations on 1-on-1 basis. Together we have made a difference.

21. HKJC donates HK$30m to support the Sichuan earthquake relief work.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced today (13 May) that it will make an immediate emergency donation of HK$30 million to support the Sichuan earthquake relief work. Details of the donation presentation and other staff-driven fundraising activities will be announced as soon as possible.

22. IBM technology helps Sichuan earthquake relief efforts in the journey to recovery Maneuvers global resources and supports to help China

May 21, Beijing, China … After a devastating earthquake occurred in Sichuan Province, China, on May 12, IBM immediately set up a Crisis Management Team to maneuver the global resources and supports to contribute to the relief efforts in China. In eight days since the incident happened, IBM has donated technology, equipment and service worth over US$ one million to several key government departments. IBM leveraged its technology and experiences in large-scale disasters to help China’s relief efforts.

In addition, IBM employees made cash donations and participated in volunteering work. By May 19, 1, 1593 IBM employees in China contributed donations of RMB 3,238,026 to Red Cross in China. The donation certificate and “China Humanitarian Medal” were awarded by Red Cross of China. A great number of overseas employees were also active in China’s relief efforts and made cash donations.

IBM’s major efforts include:

  • On May 14, IBM donated several high-end enterprise servers, database management software and IT services to China Charity & Donation Information Center, Ministry of Civil Affairs. The installation was completed and the operation started on May 14, 2008. The system serves as a stronghold for Ministry of Civil Affairs to manage data inputs that enable them to release accurate official statistics for aid resources received.
  • On May 15, IBM donated several servers and relevant software and service to Beijing Red Cross Blood Center during the peak time when people were flooding in for blood donation. The system increased the productivity and efficiency in managing blood preparation coordination and blood donation. The system was in operation before noon on May 16, 2008.
  • On May 19 and 20, IBM proposed the Sahana solution to National Disaster Reduction Center, China Charity and Donation Information Center of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, and Emergency Commanding Center of Chengdu City. Sahana is an open source disaster management software tool developed by IBM and other organizations during Indian Ocean Tsunami, adding with IBM customization support, hardware and application development. It is characterized as: assistance to search and management for missing population, coordination and balance for division of labor and cooperation between assistance organizations and volunteers, registration and allocation and tracking for assistance request and implementation, registration and tracking management of camp, cooperative management of relief materials, and decision-making strategy for Geographic Information Decision Support System of disaster situation.
  • On May 20, IBM contributed a server to Information Center of Seismological Bureau needed to establish a strong response system for immediate public earthquake alarm. It fully guarantees the efficient operation for Emergency Command Center Portals under the soaring visit inquiries.

Due to the catastrophic damage caused by the earthquake, the disaster relief and reconstruction efforts are a long journey. It requires perseverance and continuing efforts. IBM is committed to working with the related departments and institutions to aid China for earthquake and disaster management. 23. Johnson &Johnson

Dear colleagues,

We are all deeply saddened by hearing of severe earthquake struck in Sichuan province. Meanwhile, our company and employees are spontaneously acting to assist the China’s disaster relief efforts.

By May 20th, 2008, we have already donated Johnson & Johnson products valuing RMB 1,517,036 to Sichuan disaster stricken area through Chinese Ministry of Health. The donation includes Band-Aid, Stayfree, Listerine, Johnson Baby Powder, etc, which are urgently needed by people affected by disaster.

Hereon, we sincerely wish all those in the disaster stricken area peace and safety, and their families be rebuilt soon.

24. MD Guthy-Renker donated cash through the Red Cross.

25. Michelin China has donated RMB 500,000 to Sichuan Red Cross, and is now collecting donations from Michelin employees. Further notice will be issued once the employee donation is sent out.

26. Microsoft China has donated and pledged RMB 11.7 million (approximately $1,670,000) to the Red Cross Society of China and U.S. based NGOs for China’s earthquake disaster relief, of which RMB 5.1 million was donated by Microsoft employees. Microsoft and Microsoft employees are engaged in a wide range of disaster relief activities (employee volunteers, urgent IT support for MS customers, local disaster response organizations, and China Red Cross Foundation, and MSN donation site for school rebuilding).

Motorola continues to support Sichuan Earthquake disaster relief

Total donation reaches RMB15 million

Motorola today announced additional donations to support the disaster relief in Sichuan, bringing the total cumulative amount to RMB15 million in cash, mobile networking equipment, mobile handsets and two way radios plus related onsite technical services. Motorola employees in China and around the world are participating in the disaster relief effort by donating cash valued over RMB2 million, matched by Motorola funds amounting to over RMB 4M.

We want to let you know that Motorola Foundation was overwhelmed by the extent of the tragedy and equally overwhelmed by the generous response of our employees worldwide. On Monday they called an emergency meeting of the Motorola Foundation Board to raise the amount of their matching donation to USD250,000 (RMB1.75 million). The Foundation will continue to work with the China Management team to provide further support for rebuilding activities in the future.

Apart from the donation in cash, we want to highlight the rapid response and significant contribution from each of our businesses. Immediately following the earthquake we began working with our customers and partners to restore communications in the impacted areas and donated a wide range of equipment and services, including TETRA portable radios, CDMA mobile phones, Remote Speaker Micro-phone, GSM network equipment and services. As the extent of the damage has become better understood, our businesses have expanded these donations and our technical teams have moved onsite to work closely with the customers, partners and related organizations to provide communications for the affected areas as quickly as possible. This rapid and ongoing response is something we should be proud of!

We’re touched by what Motorolans are doing to support the relief effort, whether through cash donations or voluntary donations of critical necessity items such as flashlights, blanket, and clothing for the people in Sichuan. The efforts are deeply appreciated.

28. Nike announced last Friday its cash donation of RMB 10 million and RMB 20 million in-kind donations for the disaster relief. It is going though China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA).

29. Pfizer China

  • On May 13, Pfizer China is among the first to announce will provide RMB 10 million (approximately US $1.4 million) in medicines and financial assistance.
  • All the donations are via Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) and its branches. The donation, which were most made on the same day (May 13), includes RMB 5 million cash donation and RMB 5 million worth medicines in the therapeutic areas of antibiotics and analgesics that are in urgent need. All medicine donations had arrived Chengdu. The Medicines had been distributed to hospitals and are saving lives since May 15.
  • In addition, Pfizer colleagues have donated RMB 836,000 in cash to the Sichuan Red Cross Society of China (RCSC). Pfizer will match this colleague’s donation.

30. Philips Greater China management team has donated RMB 4.25 million in total, which include 60 Philips healthcare equipments and RMB 2 million in cash."

31. Qualcomm Commits Funds to Support Earthquake Recovery Efforts in China

SAN DIEGO — May 14, 2008 — Qualcomm Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of advanced wireless technologies and data solutions, today announced that the Company has committed $500,000 to support relief and recovery efforts after this week's devastating earthquake in China. The funds will be donated to the Red Cross Society of China.

"We extend our sympathy and good wishes to those affected by the destruction and impact of the earthquake in China and are committed to supporting relief efforts. The Red Cross Society of China's immediate response to provide relief efforts is commendable and we are pleased to assist with their vital work," said Jing Wang, executive vice president of Qualcomm Asia Pacific and Middle East/Africa.

32. Rohm and Haas made a corporate donation of 500,000 RMB. It is still collecting employee donations. We donated to Chinese Red Cross Foundation in Shanghai. Here are the corporate communication to all employees and external stakeholders.

On May 16, 2008 Rohm and Haas China donated RMB500, 000 to the China Red Cross. At the same time, Rohm and Haas had launched an appeal to encourage employees around the world to make personal contributions to relief agencies. The company will match employee contributions up to RMB350,000, raising the potential donation from Rohm and Haas and its employees to RMB1 million or $170,000. This commitment is our Rohm and Haas way to support the government and the Chinese people in its disaster relief efforts.

33. Roche

Till last Friday, the donation Roche had made for the earthquake is as follows:

  • Drug: RMB5,000,000(Rocephin), donated by Shanghai Roche Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
  • Cash: RMB850,000( RMB350,000 donated by Shanghai Roche Pharmaceuticals Ltd and RMB500,000 donated by Roche Diagnostics (Shanghai) Ltd. ). 
  • Cash: RMB 424,913, donated by all employees of Roche China.

34. Saint-Honore Shanghai Commercial & Trading Co. Ltd. has made a donation of RMB 1,000,000 to Shanghai Red Cross for Sichuang province. Please find attached the Certificate of Honour from Shanghai Red Cross.

35. Sanyo group decided to give a donation corresponding to RMB 1,340,000 (=twenty (20) million Japanese yen, 1 RMB=15 J.yen). In addition, our local employees are chipping in voluntarily and our local subsidiary companies are donating some money through the local governments.

36. Sony Ericsson extends its deepest sympathy to the families of all those affected by the tragic earthquake in Sichuan province and surrounding areas of China. It is a further devastation to a region already trying to handle the aftermath of cyclone Nargis in Burma in the same month. As a company, we feel it necessary to support the relief efforts in the Sichuan province. Now that the Chinese government has requested international assistance and in-keeping with our initial reaction; Sony Ericsson is helping in a number of ways: in conjunction with the Sichuan Mobile operator and Sony Ericsson China; we have already donated 1500, J110 mobile phones including a prepaid sim card for relief workers; Sony Ericsson President Dick Komiyama has pledged 1 million RMB (renminbi – local currency) approx to 100k Euro to boost employee contributions, worldwide; Parent companies Sony and Ericsson have made donations in financial and equipment terms respectively.

We most sincerely hope that victims will be rescued as many and early as possible.

37. Time Warner is directing employees who are interested in contributing to organizations that are currently on the ground including CARE, Save the Children, Doctors without Borders and Mercy Corps. Time Warner is providing information to the public about how to get involved via CNN, including in the section "Impact Your World" on CNN.com.

38. TRW

The staff of TRW Aftermarket donated over RMB10, 000 through Red Cross.

39. Tyco Electronics is reaching out in a number of ways to support the relief effort:

In China, our facilities have set up on-site cash collection points and so far more than 22,000 of our employees in China have donated more than $160,000 (1.1 million RMB) to help our affected colleagues.

Last week, TE made an immediate cash donation of $150,000 (approximately 1 million RMB) on behalf of all TE employees to the Red Cross Society of China to assist with emergency efforts.

We also established the TE China Earthquake Relief Fund, a worldwide fund that will be used for immediate and direct relief of affected TE employees and their families in China.
Meanwhile, TE’s business units in China continue to work with Chinese authorities to determine what TE products and services can be donated to help with the overall relief effort. Our Wireless Systems segment has donated emergency wireless communications equipment and field technical services valued at approximately $1 million (7 million RMB) for use by disaster relief teams in China. And last week, our Network Solutions business segment in China committed $90,000 (approximately 600,000 RMB) worth of products and services to help rebuild critical telecommunications and energy networks.

The response to China’s earthquake victims has been impressive, but far more assistance is needed. We will continue to determine how TE can best help with the relief effort and we will keep you informed of further developments.

40. Zippo donated $10,000 through Red Cross Society of China for the Sichuan Earthquake.

41. As of 17 June, to date, donations and pledges by Emerson and its employees to the Sichuan earthquake relief efforts have reached nearly 11 million RMB in cash and equipment, including RMB 2 million worth of equipment donated by Emerson Network Power China. Scores of engineers of Emerson Network Power China were also dispatched to telecom operators located in the affected areas to assist them in re-establishing communications links. Nearly 5.5 million RMB cash donations have already been made to the Red Cross Society and other relief organizations. Included in the total effort is the Company’s decision to donate 250,000 RMB to sponsor the construction of temporary classrooms through the China Youth Development Foundation, and the company's pledge of RMB 3.25 million for construction of permanent schools. The victims of this disaster will continue to face challenges for years to come, and this latter project is intended to help address this need.
